About this deal

Similar to that box, inside Chalnath you get: the Chalnath campaign book, the Novitiate Kill Team, the Pathfinder Kill Team, a lot of terrain sprues (similar to those found in the Kill Team 2018 core set) and then a game board and instruction manual for building. If you like Kill Team already, and have an interest in one or both of the Kill Teams in this box, then go nuts. After any battle in which you fielded a Pronatus, you roll a D6 to see if they recovered any relics. And for drones you have the Advanced Cogitation Chip, which lets a drone ignore the first three AI rules, e. The T’au Pathfinders are already incredibly versatile, but the Earth caste has outfitted them with a ton of new gear.

However, the Tau not ones to lose new land for the Greater Good, launched a heavy counterattack committing far more of their forces. The Chalnath Expanse is situated on the wrong side of the Great Rift, deep within the darkened reaches of Imperium Nihilus. We’re nearing the end of our warp jump to the embattled Vedik system , and while the Tech-priests are calculating our final approach it’s the perfect time to sit down with the Kill Team: Chalnath box and see exactly what you’ll be getting inside. The problem is that while there’s plenty of stuff available, it’s all spread out across several releases, and it’s all really expensive. They offer some good variation from the standard rulebook ones, and they’re varied enough that you won’t get tired of them on the first playthrough.

Novitiates are completely new to the 41st Millennium, and as you’ve come to expect from Kill Team releases, their kit is incredibly flexible and comes with dozens of options to let you build your team as you see fit.Rob has spent most of the last 20 years playing World of Warcraft and writing stories set in made-up worlds. Still, the actions themselves are evocative and there are some solid narrative hooks here for GMs who want to incorporate this into something more narratively-focused. Not only did it place the legendary Death Korps of Krieg at the forefront of the Warhammer 40,000 universe along with everyone’s favourite green-skinned ladz, but it also catapulted the Kill Team game system into the forefront of everyone’s minds – and added some seriously sweet figures to our collections.

Doors and hatches make terrain traversal even easier, although I would have preferred if they costed 1 white to move through instead of for free. These are pretty standard – similar to the Octarius missions they use/recommend a specific terrain layout using the box terrain, and they generally pretty good at matching the mood of what they seem to be going for.

Interestingly, only 1 markerlight token is removed from an operative at the start of each turning point, rewarding you for placing multiple ones on a single operative. The guide is extremely long and at times quite confusing and convoluted – and the bit of scenery you end up with at the end is massive, so good luck finding a place to keep this one whilst it awaits the attention of your brush! Exemplar of the Greater Good rewards you with bonus XP for an operative who has taken on their second battle scar.

Your operatives will have their work cut out for them in the Chalnath Expanse, with nine new missions arriving in the Shadow Operations: Chalnath mission pack. The standout strategic ploys for me are Bonded, which rewards you for pairing-up operatives and getting more re-rolls, and then Determined Tactician, that grants you a once-per-game second Art of War for operatives within red of your leader. Of course, if you don’t own a copy of Octarius, you’re going to be short a few of the things you need to actually play the game, such as the Core Book and the accursed Compendium, the latter of which which didn’t come with Octarius either. These are fully modular and can be combined with Sector Mechanicus, other Sector Imperialis kits or Zone Mortalis, however the missions in this book do want them to be built as per the included missions. There’s a huge amount of optional extras with the Pathfinder team as well, so there are plenty of pistols and pouches that you can choose to attach to your figures should you so wish. The teams themselves are great, though Novitates certainly feel like they’re more unique than Pathfinder teams, and have slightly better rules to compensate. This new set includes two new kill teams – T’au Pathfinders and Battle Sister Novitiates, with new models and new equipment – as well as a vast array of plastic scenery and a double-sided game board. It is our mission to bring you the latest from the miniature wargaming scene, from narrative missions, hobby how-to tutorials, battle reports, unboxings and reviews, retro flashbacks, news, rumors, and more.
