I always try to enter testing a new laptop without any bias based on specs or price, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I expected mediocre performance from the Omen. For our finale using our Red Dead Redemption benchmark (1080p) the Omen 15 scored 58 fps, which is above the 54 fps average but, only rewarded the unit with second place as the Alienware m15 R3 scored 59 fps beating our unit by a nose. The Omen 15 keyboard benefits from RGB lighting, which helps to provide game-ready styling without becoming overbearing. However, the settings in Command Center aren’t quite as flexible as with the likes of Razer and Asus ROG laptops. I enjoyed a few minutes of Mozart’s “Requiem in D Minor.” The soft strings of the violin and oboe gave way to the heavier bass strings, powerfully entering as the operatic voices of the chorus begin with the altos and sopranos clearly coming through melodically. It was a thing of beauty. As for gaming-specific software, HP's Omen Gaming Hub comes preinstalled. It's the app you'll use to do things like view device stats, underplot the CPU to decrease power use without impacting performance, or force the Omen to use only the RTX 3060 GPU instead of letting Windows automatically switch between Intel's UHD graphics and the RTX 3060. The Omen outscored its competition during our synthetic tests, starting with Geekbench 5.0, an overall performance benchmark. The Omen scored 6,416, pushing past the Alienware m15 (Intel Core i7-10750H), which scored 6.314, followed by the Asus ROB Strix G 15 (Intel Core i7-10750H) and its5,210. As for the overall size and weight, the Omen is deceivingly not light. Until I looked at the specifications, I had no clue it weighed over 5 pounds. To be exact, it weighs 5.4-pounds and measures 14.09 x 9.44 x 0.9-inches (WxDxH). It's not overly heavy, by any means, I just didn't expect it to weigh that much. HP Omen 15 – Performance and gaming Resolutions – For a good gaming experience, go for a 1920x1080 Full High Definition (FHD) display or higher. 4K displays are great, but you may need to turn down the settings for some games. You’ll also need a high-end graphics card to make the most of it. However, one of the most exciting things about the HP Omen 15 is that it includes recent Nvidia hardware. We also found that it performed extremely well with modern games and could confidently run even the most demanding AAA titles. Previous iterations of the HP Omen 15 clearly chased the hardcore gaming crowd, with angular edges and grooves found all over. I quite liked the look, but it could understandably be accused of being “too much”.
