About this deal

The warm air people breathe out while sleeping increases humidity. There's nowhere for the moist air to go when windows are closed, so it turns into condensation. Opening the window allows the warm air to escape instead. Many believe that all damp at low level must be rising damp, but this is often a myth not true at all. In fact rising damp is actually extremely rare and in most cases it’s either penetrating damp or indeed condensation.

Once the air is saturated with water vapour (at any given temperature) it will deposit beads of water (condensation) onto any surface that is cold enough for it to condense. The temperature of the surface at which this moisture will form is called the ‘dew point’.Use a Hygrometer to show you the actual Relative Humidity level in the room. If you are not able to measure the RH it makes getting the right balance between heating and ventilation difficult to achieve. Once the room is thoroughly dried out you can then just use ventilation to keep condensation at bay. I have Condensation but I don’t want to leave my Window open Of course, there are many ways moist air can enter our home. The most common method is by showering. Lots of water vapor rises from hot water and fogs up our windows, glass doors, mirrors, and even other flat, hard surfaces. But moist air can also come from drying clothes, washing, and cooking. Cooking, boiling pans and using the kettle create a lot of steam in a kitchen. As do activities such as washing up, clothes washing and using a tumble dryer. Opening windows wide whilst doing these activities will provide ventilation and allow the warm air to escape rather than cause condensation on the window. Install extractor fans in the kitchen and bathroom. The best models are available with a humidistat control, which means they are automatically triggered to operate when the humidity in the room rises

Don’t dry washing indoors – if you have a tumble dryer make sure it is properly vented or buy a self-condensing model. Question – "I have wet walls at low level and dry walls above three foot, so it must be rising damp" Traditional windows were used to provide effective ventilation which was essential when most homes were heated by fossil fuels. because most people decide to constantly wipe their windows and ventilate their rooms by opening their windows and doors repeatedly for short time periods. Not only is this a lot of hassle, but it also means they have to reheat their rooms over and over, again raising their heating costs! A health hazard You probably don’t really care about the scientific causes of condensation on glass; you just want to get rid of it! In addition to possibly damaging your house, it’s not any fun to have to peer through hazy windows just to get a peek at what’s going on outside of your home. Fortunately, there are a number of things that you can do to reduce condensation on your windows.

Reducing moisture to reduce condensation

Bay windows were designed to have two casement windows on either side to allow superior draw and ventilation. Repairing it is the cheaper option in the short term, but you should consider the expected life cycle of the window, and think about whether it’s worth replacing instead.

Window condensation can be downright irritating and, in some cases, it can even damage your home. Condensation can rot wood molding and damage plaster, and the excess moisture in your home which causes interior condensation can damage your entire home, not just the areas around the windows. Use tall trees, bushes, or other plants to create shade, or a dedicated structure such as an overhang. NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Ulster Bank, which are all part of the NatWest Group, will now shut at least 172 of their bank branches in 2023 and 2024.Improving air circulation inside the affected room will help reduce humidity and help prevent condensation forming on your windows. Effective condensation control is all about lifestyle, once you get the situation under control you will start to automatically put into place the measures that will stop condensation forming. It means your home’s insulation is thermally efficient, with little to no heat leaking out. Cold air from the outside reacts with the warm surface temperature of the windows, creating condensation. Incorporate Anti Mould Concentrated Additive to all paints that you use (unless you are using Anti-Mould Paints).
