About this deal

This book had all the adventure I was looking for and some of the language simply had my dying-like the phrase "thrashing threes". This book begins in Johannesburg, South Africa, a place I would love to visit with an enigmatic character like Benjamin Lucas, originally from San Francisco. He poses as a free-lance writer by day, mystery man by night. The even bigger problem is that President Barrett has an even bigger master plan that he is working on and Liam and Noa are only two of the players that he is manipulating to put that plan into action. It involves putting the Vice-President and the Speaker of the House on the sidelines, taking out several terrorist organizations, preparing military exercises, and purposely antagonizing several Chinese leaders that could cause irreparable harm to international relations. No one gets this big without amazing natural storytelling talent - which is what Jim has, in spades' Lee Child The plot was creative and the writing was decent. I prefer the creep factor over political/war crimes.

Patterson (James Patterson by James Patterson) and thriller author Mooney (Remembering Sarah) mix biography and imagined dialogue in this intimate portrait of Princess Diana and her Continue reading » Tradecraft: “Maybe he’s being too cautious, but that’s like saying there’s too much bacon. No one in the Agency ever says those words.” Red herrings and gross-out humor abound in this approachable, Only Murders in the Building-esque whodunit by Patterson (the Middle School series) and Graff (The Phantom Tower), Continue reading » It was too long, too much jumping around between story lines - with short chapters I don’t think it was effective. Kind of didn’t really have a point apart from veiled digs at a former president of the USA who I don’t need to name. This could have been better than it was because of the sidebar characters and not much of a plot. Plus some predictable twists. Did the President Pyschopath pay for his dirty deeds? Read to find out. Americans could be forgiven for thinking they already have a pretty good idea of what that would be like. James Patterson is hit or miss with me. This one was a hit in my book. Imagine this: the president of the United States is brilliant but has also lost his mind. Farfetched? Clearly not! President Keegan Barrett, the former director of the CIA, has a dangerous skill set. A fictional Senate Majority Leader says, “The United States Senate: the most exclusive club in the world, with more than 250 years of history unimpeded by progress.” US President Keegan Barrett has swept into office on his success as director of the CIA. Six months into his first term, he devises a clandestine power grab with deadly consequences.

I'm torn on how to rate this one. I loved the start, and was on board 100% finding it hard to stop listening. I was worried and anxious to get to the end. And, as feared, it took a very wimpy turn about an hour before the end. It tried to ramp up the [predictable] action, but it wasn't enough for me to salvage the weak turn it took. So, anti-climatic is the best I can say. Patterson and Charbonnet (the Crazy House series) reunite for this continuation of the Maximum Ride saga, set a decade after the events of 2015’s Maximum Ride Forever. Hawk, 15, has eked out Continue reading » Thanks to NetGalley, James Patterson, and Little Brown & Company for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. In this series spinoff, narrator Junior, hound of the Middle School series’ Rafe Khatchadorian, typifies his exuberance and loquaciousness in his journal’s introduction: “If you hadn’t guessed Continue reading » I found this slow at some points then cruises along to action, mystery and violence. It's an interesting and plausible plot which I would have said as not until 7 years ago. FrighteningJames Patterson has written many presidential thrillers, like The President's Daughter and the The President is missing, both of which I enjoyed. I thought this was interesting because it was startlingly similar to what is happening in the United States currently with the Trump Administration. What happens when a pyschotic sociopath becomes President? Keegan Barrett, former director of the CIA, has easily transitioned to the Oval Office. Only six months into his term, h comes up with an off-the-books plan to use the CIA on home soil to get rid of his enemies. And he is ruthless. The type of ruthlessness that comes from thinking you are the smartest person on earth and no one can stop you. James Patterson is the gold standard by which all others are judged. STEVE BERRY, bestselling author of the Colton Malone series

Was reluctant to give this two stars as I really used to enjoy James Pattersons works, however this one was just not for me.US President Keegan Barrett has swept into office on his success as Director of the CIA. He immediately devises a clandestine power grab with deadly consequences, to more than those involved. US President Keegan Barrett has swept into office on his success as Director of the CIA.
