Hi-Media Publishing Network. 2009-08-05 . Retrieved 2012-08-06. Wii Fit is a fitness game that uses a balance test to determine your age. The software is designed to be accurate for people ages 2 to 20. However, results may not be accurate for younger people. This is because a person with more muscle mass will have a higher BMI than someone with less muscle mass. The Wii Fit software includes several means of assessing balance ability. Once the Wii Fit software is loaded, participants are first encouraged to perform a “body test” that comprises both “center of balance” and “body control” measures of balance control. In the center of balance assessment, participants stand still on the WBB for 7 s while COP data is collected. From this data, the participant’s average COP deviation from body midline is calculated, indicating a measure of weight bearing asymmetry. Overall, this assessment is thought to provide information about body posture with the assumption that having an equal distribution of weight between left and right legs is ideal. Yoga for Wii". Wii Fit took none of these nuances into account. It might be easy to just write Wii Fit off as a well-intentioned game that used a common index for its time, but even then, the game was inconsistent with what it considered to be a good and bad BMI. Polygon reviewed one play through where the player had a “healthy” BMI of 22.97 by the game’s and medical standards, but the game still suggested that the person try to lower it.
