About this deal

The mic is simple and does not have any additional features except the model with an “On/Off” power switch to enable and disable the mic. Sound Quality The mic is superior when it comes to capturing detailed sounds from different vocal profiles. Thus, the mic is ideal for studio recording and live performances. The mic’s built-in features enhance its capability for ensuring the utmost sound clarity. If you’re starting a podcast, don’t yet have a microphone, and have a limited budget, the Q2U is an excellent option. Another microphone with dual XLR/ USB output, making it a fitting choice for a podcast beginner, much like the Q2U. The XLR output is also a great mic to transition from a beginner to a more experienced podcaster. It is lighter, so it can be used on the go, outside, and on stage.

In addition to sound quality, the Q2U has both micro USB and XLR connectors, making it simple to use with a basic computer setup or more complex mixers and audio interfaces (more on this later.) If you're using the mic's XLR functionality to record to a mixer and something stops working, you can easily attach the USB cables and record directly to your computer instead. Audio Technica AT2100 and Samson Q2U are both popular microphones among users. However, some find that AT-2100 sounds slightly thinner while Q2U is deeper and denser. The overall quality is perceived to be the same. Collection and delivery costs are included for the first 2 years in the event of an item becoming faulty Ultimately, after our Samson Q2U review, we can recommend the Samson Q2U to any new podcaster. It’s flexible and easy to use. It offers great sound quality at an affordable price.

Why is Samson Q2U better than Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB?

Furthermore, there is a noticeable boost in quality when you use the XLR connection. Don’t get us wrong, the USB connection doesn’t sound bad, but the XLR connection is clearly better. However, you need an audio interface for this, which adds to the cost.

There’s very little in it between the Q2U, the ATR2100, and the Maono AU-HD300T. I go into more detail in the post I’ve linked to there. XLR/USB Combo Mics On the other hand, the SM58 has been built with a solid design and is tough to withstand harsh situations. Unlike the Q2U mic, when it falls, you are concerned about whether it will continue functioning. With the SM58 mic, it can survive the most forceful falls and still work like a new one. We also recommend wearing headphones or headset during your recording. This will help you identify ambient sounds that make their way into your recording. If something is too loud (or you think it will be too hard to edit out later), consider pausing and recording that segment again. If you need headphones, we recommend the Sony MDR 7506 or the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. Other Microphone Options The XLR version was recorded into a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface. I’ve applied no post-processing, normalisation, noise-reduction, etc, to the files. Samson Q2U Alternatives Whereas a condenser microphone is highly sensitive to all sounds (even ambient sounds like your air conditioner or the traffic outside your window), a dynamic microphone is less sensitive, which makes it easier for new podcasters who don’t follow perfect microphone techniques yet. Samson Q2U specificationsBoth microphones work well on the PC and the Mac, so whichever operating system of the two you may use, you won’t run into any problems. Is it the best microphone available? No. If you want the absolute best sound quality, there are plenty of better choices, but they come at significantly higher price points. Most podcasters decide to upgrade once their show begins generating revenue, typically to something like the Shure SM7B. The Q2U mic is promoted as a podcasting microphone, and it performs exceptionally well in this area despite its low cost. If you are not planning to do onstage performances, this is the ideal microphone. It also performs well with handling noise. It’s always preferable to mount your mics in a boom arm or stand, but it might be easier to walk around holding the mic if you’re doing some on-location interviews. The only mic I’ve come across that ‘handles’ better than the Q2U is the Shure SM58. Where Would You Use It? We recommend the stage performance kit for beginners, which contains the mic, a mic stand plus a mic clip, a storage bag, and an XLR cable. The accompanying accessories are perfect for live performances and studio recordings. Design and Features Connecting Cables Samson Q2U Mic

Here are a couple of sound samples I’ve recorded for you. They were initially recorded for our Best Budget Mics roundup, and feature segments of a reading from Beatrix Potter’s dark horror classic Peter Rabbit. Samson Q2U as USB When you need a more professional setup, like connecting to an audio interface or mixer, the XLR cable allows you to do so easily. The ATR2100 kit includes a tripod that cannot expand like the Q2U one, but it has folding legs that make it portable. It also comes with a stand clamp and USB and XLR cables. This kit does not include the pop filter, so you must buy one to improve your audio quality.

Includes mic clip, tripod stand, tripod stand extension, foam windscreen, USB cable (2.25m) and XLR cable (3m) Having both a USB and XLR connection means you can even record through both simultaneously. If you’re doing an important interview on location and are scared of something breaking, this is a comforting safety net to have in place. You can also use this dual functionality to assist you when doing a mix-minus remote interview.
